Hope Valley Journal – Sunart Fields

Commissioned by Kate, writer of Hope valley Journal, to spend the morning with Rachel and Geoff at their farm, Sunart Fields. They bought the farm land recently to restore a healthy balance with nature. It used to operate as an active dairy farm but now they only have a couple of pigs and some sheep grazing in the fields. The big plan is to rewild the land by planting lots and lots of trees and hedgerows. I spent a couple of hours with them wandering their fields and chatting with Rachel about the world. “Lots of people think rewilding is just leaving land to do its thing without intervention, but it’s not always that simple. We’ve chosen to plant trees and hedgerows to kick start things, setting up the base conditions to let a healthy ecosystem develop naturally.”
